ZESCO Hikes Electricity Tariffs
Power utility firm the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) has hiked its electricity tariffs effective from mid night.
The step comes after the approval by the Energy Regulation Board (E.R.B) of ZESCO’s application for a price adjustment.
A Kilowatt will now cost K1.13 from 37 Ngwee.
The Energy regulator has further instructed the power utility firm to reduce electricity subsidies being given to its employees from the current 2000 Kilowatts per month to about 300 kilowatts.
Further price adjustments are also anticipated in the energy sector as price of fuel is expected to go up.
Plunging copper prices and a severe power shortage have strained Zambia’s economy with prices of essential commodities sky-rocketing way beyond the reach of many.
