WBC to honour Catherine Phiri.
THE World Boxing Council will next month honour champion Catherine Phiri.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion operations manager Christopher Malunga announced on Friday that Catherine would be honoured at the WBC Convention in Florida.
“World Boxing Council (WBC) will honour Catherine Phiri, the WBC gold bantamweight champion with a special honour and award during the 54th convention in Florida. The convention will start on 11th December and end on 17th December 2016 at The Diplomat Beach Resort, Hollywood, Florida,” stated Malunga.
Catherine made history earlier this year when she became the first African woman to win the WBC gold title after she dethroned then champion Yasmin Rivas of Mexico.
Catherine defended her title in August, knocking out South Africa’s Gabisile Tshabalala in the first round in Lusaka.
