UNZA Students Protest And Demand For Allowance Increment
University of Zambia (UNZA) students early this morning staged protests demanding an increment in their bursaries allocations.
The slogan-chanting students terrorized and blocked Lussaka’s Great East road leading to disruptions in the flow of traffic and grinding of business in the area.
Stones and other projectiles were hurled as Police moved in to quell the demonstrations. The students from Zambia’s highest institution of learning say they need more allowances as the cost of living has risen drastically.
Also related, last Sunday, Kitwe Police fought running battles with Copperbelt University (CBU) students and arrested four for riotous behavior.
The students staged a protest, blocking Jambo Drive with stones and burnt tires demanding Government to pay them their meal allowances.
Police in riot gear were quickly deployed to control the situation.
