Under 20 to compete in COSAFA tournament

Under 20 to compete in COSAFA Tournament.

The Under-20 team is scheduled to compete in next month’s COSAFA tournament before the Africa Cup as hosts next year.
In an interview, Phiri, the former Chipolopolo trainer, said winning must start with the COSAFA tournament in South Africa.

“We must inculcate a spirit of winning in the junior teams. Let them work hard and take over Chipolopolo, this is a team that can win us another AfCON and take us to the World Cup,” Phiri said.

He said winning the COSAFA tournament would be a good start to their Africa Cup campaign next year.

“Winning the COSAFA will motivate them going into the African Championship, what they should know is that we have always been dominant at the COSAFA and nothing should stop us this time around,” said Phiri.

The Under-20 team regrouped in Lusaka yesterday for their final preparations of the COSAFA tournament on December 7-16 in South Africa.

Zambia is in Group B of the tournament alongside regional rivals Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Zambia has won the COSAFA Under-20 Championship a record 10 times.

They exited in the first round the last time the tournament was played in 2013.
