Traces of Zika Virus Could Be Present in North-Western Dwellers
Health minister Dr Joseph kasondoe has said some Zambians in North-Western Province at some point in history had contracted the Zika virus and could have remained with it.
“There was a very small number that was found when we did a sample survey in the North-Western Province…what we know is that at some point in our history there, [some people] must have gotten the virus but overcame it. But they must have remained with signs of the previous acquisition of Zika. So we can say those are the only signs; that at some time in the history of Zambia, we have had it, but it does not exist,” Dr Kasonde said.
He, however, said the time to worry was not when Zika comes into the country but before it arrives.
“We must control and observe what is going on,” Dr Kasonde said.
He said his ministry already had a system of checking samples of blood from the areas prone to the Zika virus.
