President Edgar Lungu had to leave the women’s day commemoration on advise of doctors who detected traces of malaria and fatigue.

The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) on March 8, 2015 said President Edgar Lungu should be commended for being open about his health.
Speaking at a joint Press conference at the health institution in Lusaka, ZMA President Dr. Aaron Mujajati said the Head of State should be applauded for the decision that he has taken as it shows transparency in the way his health is being handled as President.
Mujajati said like every other human being, the President was prone to natural ailments such as fatigue and malaria, noting the issue should not be blown out of proportion or politicized.
He as well urged President Edgar Lungu to set up the Office of the Physician General that will be tasked with monitoring and making recommendations on the health of the Office bearer of Republican President on health matters. He commended President Lungu for taking the bold step and said he had set a good legacy as his health was not shrouded in mystery.

The Medical Team attending to His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has explored options of correcting the narrowing of the food pipe that led to the illness of the President on Sunday March, 8 2015.
Doctors have recommended that President Lungu undergoes a high-tech medical procedure which is currently unavailable in Zambia and therefore he has been referred for specialised treatment abroad.
As announced in our earlier Bulletin this morning, President Lungu has a history Achalasia (the condition of the narrowing of the food pipe.)
This condition was corrected 30 years ago at the University Teaching Hospital and appears to have recurred.
A team of senior doctors comprising physicians, surgeons, pathologists, and radiologists, reviewed these findings and recommended immediate correction of this condition.
