PF Angered Over illegal Land Allocations

PF Angered Over illegal Land Allocations.

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya says individuals involved in illegal land allocation and acquisition are thugs hiding under the guise of political party cadres.

And Lusaka City Council ( LCC) public relations manager Mulunda Habeenzu has urged the general public to report any council official engaging in unethical land allocation.

“ I want to avoid the temptation to address cadres, let me address thugs who pose as political party cadres while engaging in illegal land allocation. The issue of saying ` the cadres’ only comes in when they think that by identifying themselves in such a manner, somehow, somebody will not touch them,” Mr Bwalya said.

He said this on Monday when he featured on the ‘ Issue Today, Tonight’ programme on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation ( ZNBC) television one ( TV1) Mr Bwalya advised Zambians to be wary of individuals masquerading as political party cadres while engaging in illegal land allocations and acquisition.

He said such individuals are criminals who want to use the name of the party in power as a scapegoat.

“ One thing that these thugs should know is that the PF is bold on such issues, so I do not even want to make any appeal, the Lusaka City Council has spoken very clearly about following the law and laid down procedures in land allocation and acquisition,” Mr Bwalya said.

He also believes that President Lungu’s “ heart bleeds” to see poor people’s houses which have been built on illegally acquired land being demolished by local authorities.

Mr Bwalya said the PF also welcomes calls by some sections of society for Government to quickly implement the Land Policy to resolve pending issues surrounding land allocation and acquisition in Zambia.

He also warned that the PF will not defend members found engaging in illegal land allocation and acquisition.

“ We are asking our members to be very wary of these criminals who move from one political party to the next.

when it was the MMD in power, they ( thugs) claimed they were MMD, doing illegal land allocation and acquisition.

“ Now that it is the PF in power, they are doing the same thing. These are just thugs who are specialised in doing what they are doing and, by the way they have the money to quickly put up structures on illegal land,” he said.

Mr Bwalya said Government has an obligation to assist ordinary citizens acquire land not because they voted for the PF but because they are Zambians and have a legitimate claim to whatever they need.

And Mr Habeenzu said people should not hesitate to report any council official found wanting.

He warned that the local authority will not rest until those involved in illegal land allocation and acquisition are brought to book or reprimanded.
