Nutrition In Zambia Improves-CSO

The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition Alliance -CSO-SUN- says Zambia has made a lot of headways in addressing nutrition challenges owing to commitment by government leadership.

CSO-SUN Country Coordinator, William Chilufya says Zambia has recorded a reduction in stunting among children from 45 percent to 40percent.

Mr. Chilufya told Zed Corner in an interview today that Zambia is coming from a background where issues regarding nutrition were not being given adequate attention a situation which has changed now.

He says the alliance has so far had two engagements this year with the Vice President, Inonge Wina on nutrition matters a sign of commitment from government.

Mr. Chilufya has however noted that levels of children with severe acute malnutrition have increased from 5 to 6 percent.

He said the alliance in 2015 embarked on campaigns on the revision of the mandate for the National Food and Nutrition Commission with government having taken the bill to parliament.

Mr. Chilufya is optimistic of recording more achievements toward reducing stunting levels in 2016.
