Notorious Kitwe Copper Thug Gets 5 years Imprisonment
PF cadre and Kitwe businessman Richard Chileshe popularly known as “Chile 1”[In black shirt] and three others have been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labou for copper theft.
In his case, Chileshe, together with six others identified as John Mapoma, Victor Bweupe, Evans Mulenga, Mukwapatila Tembo Kapango, Kelvin Tembo and Davy Ngosa, were accused of stealing 30 copper blisters valued at K1 million, which they buried at a garage in Mindolo township.
The court, however, acquitted Bweupe, Kapango and Tembo.
When the matter came up for judgment, Kitwe principal resident magistrate Ikechukwu Iduma slapped Chileshe, Mapoma, Mulenga and Ngosa with a five-year jail term.
Among the accused was Mulenga, who was convicted in absentia and a warrant of arrest was issued by the court.
Meanwhile, Chileshe was yesterday expected to appear for judgment in a matter he is charged with threatening violence.
In this case, Chile 1 is charged with threatening violence contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that on July 15, 2015, Chileshe discharged a loaded firearm with intent to cause alarm to any person.
He was found with a case to answer and put on his defence by Kitwe chief resident magistrate Penjani Lamba.
The case was related to the violence on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his supporters when he visited Kitwe to open the party’s secretariat in Cha Cha Cha township.
PF cadres prevented Hichilema from appearing on a live paid-for programme on Radio Icengelo and later followed him with machetes and weapons to Moba Hotel, where he had gone to seek refuge.
Many UPND cadres were injured at their party secretariat, which was also damaged by PF cadres.
