THE Ndola police officer of Lubuto who shot dead a civilian has been committed to the High Court for trial.
Obed Nkhoma, 38, a truck driver, was shot dead by a police officer in December last year.
The police officer, who is alleged to have been acting on a report of malicious damage at a bar involving the deceased, shot Nkhoma in the hip and thigh and he bled to death.
The officer, only identified as Banda, entered Nkhoma’s house through the toilet window and broke his bedroom door before firing three bullets.
Nkhoma allegedly broke a glass at a bar as he was demanding for change.
Copperbelt minister Bowman Lusambo, who is also Kabushi member of parliament, had ordered the arrest of the police officer and also backed protests by residents.
According to court records, Banda would appear on March 6, for explanation of the charge and allocation for trial dates.
