Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has accused Republican President Edgar Lungu of attempting to shield what he called are his ‘friends’ from prosecution.
Commenting on the recently constituted tribunal to probe Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito, the UPND leader says Nchito is a victimised man.
“We all can see what is going on. Mutembo Nchito is being victimised by President Lungu who wants to protect his friends who have issues with the judiciary” Hichilema said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
He claimed manoeuvres to have Mutembo Nchito thrown out of office were aimed at letting people dragged before the courts over corruption to go scot free.
“They know that with the corruption cases in court by their friends it will be difficult for them to get them off the hook if Nchito continues at the helm. Given the circumstances everything has happened I doubt he will be given a fair trial.” Hichilema said before a packed audience.
