Mfuwe Airport $122 Contract Sealed.

Zambian Government has awarded a US $122 million tender to China National Complete Engineering Corporation for construction of Mfuwe International Airport.

Robinson Misitala, Zambia Airports Corporation Ltd (ZACL) managing director revealed that this project will be completed in 2 years and already negotiations and analysis of the magnitude of wake are erect.

“The flow of traffic for Mfuwe is minimal with only 30, 000 passengers per annum and our objective is to raise the figure to 300, 000 passengers per annum. During the rainy season when most lodges close, he airport equally stops receiving passengers. Our plan is to make Mfuwe Airport a small city that has adequate accommodation and other relevant facilities to attract tourists,” Mr. Misitala aluded.




The new airport will have a hotel and a shopping mall and ZACL has partnered with Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) to promote domestic tourism and encourage Zambians to use air transport.

It was also unveiled that the construction of the US$60 million Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula terminal in Livingstone is almost complete.
