Mbesuma Receives R25, 000.
Ultra gifted striker Collins Mbesuma has bagged R25,000 after finishing top scorer of the just-ended South African Premier Soccer League.
And Mamelodi Sundowns first choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who outclassed Zambia’s international Kennedy Mweene from the first choice spot was voted Absa premiership goalkeeper of the season.
In a colourful ceremony that was held at the Emperor’s place in Johannesburg on Monday night, Mbesuma was the only Zambian in the PSL to have won an award.
He finished the season on 14 goals with a goal separating him from his two closest rivals who scored 13 goals each. Mbesuma who had struggled to fight his form back enjoyed the season and his 14 goals helped to push the team into fourth position on the log.
This was the second time the Chipolopolo international is receiving a similar award that he won in the 2004/2005 season when he broke the record and scored 35 goals. It is the record that is yet to be broken in South Africa.
Mbesuma is currently with the national team as they prepare to face Guinea Bissau in the crucial 2017 AfCON qualifier in that country.
