Lusaka Man Caught With Live Snake Released From Prison With His Snake

THE Lusaka Man who run over a woman on 23rd October in Lusaka has been released from prison.

The man is reported to have had a snake on him after he was taken to a police station for a statement.

“The unidentified man hit a woman with his car but the injuries sustained by the woman turned out and looked like snake bites. He scampered for safety after the incident however the mob caught up with him and apprehended him. He was then taken to UTH Police Post where a snake slithered out of his shirt much to the consternation of the officers that were questioning him. The man later pushed the serpent back but it again emerged ready to protect him and attack those that attempted to lay hand on him,” reported Mwebantu.

And Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) has released the man. ZAWA Spokesperson said the man revealed during intense interrogation that he was given the spitting Cobra by his Grand Father in 1993 for protection and that the snake does not grow or die. He said even if ZAWA or anyone got his snake from him, it would return to him.

ZAWA decided to release the man as belief in Witchcraft is unreasonable under the Laws of Zambia and that ZAWA deals more in scientific protection of endangered species and not witchcraft.

The Spokesperson has however said the man will be charged with possession of Wildlife without a Wildlife License once ZAWA determines that his type of snake is an endangered wildlife.
