Lungu afraid of his own shadow, says Fr Chola

CATHOLIC priest Fr Kennedy Chola says President Edgar Lungu’s harassment of journalist Dr Fred M’membe is because he is afraid of his own shadow.
And Fr Chola, a media activist, says President Lungu and the PF will need the private media to survive beyond 2021.
Commenting on the continued harassment of Dr M’membe and his wife Mutinta Mazoka, the director of Oracle Media which publishes The Mast, by President Lungu’s government and its agents, Fr Chola stated that the Head of State was creating a dangerous precedent by muzzling the private media.
“Mr Lungu will have nowhere to run to! PF will have nowhere to run to! They will have no voice. So for PF to survive beyond 2021, they will need the private media,” Fr Chola, who is studying in Uganda, stated.
“PF leaders have a short memory. But it is not strange because Mr Lungu was not there when Michael Sata worked with the private media to remove the MMD from power. So to us, Mr Lungu does not know the power of the media.”
He stated that abusing Dr M’membe and his wife would not silence the private media.
“The man is afraid of his own shadow. Thinking that silencing the private media will keep them safe is a pipe dream. Reality will catch up very soon. Citizens can never be silenced for long. Soon, citizens will have the last laugh!” Fr Chola stated.
He stated that President Lungu and the PF needed the private media to perform to the expectations of the people.
“These guys need the private media to perform. So far, there is nothing that President Lungu and his PF have done. This is open truth. Look at the cost of living! Poverty is the order of the day. President Lungu and PF will need the private media to survive beyond 2021.”
State agents have obtained an arrest warrant for Dr M’membe for allegedly personating as a Post employee, a move calculated to prevent him from challenging the liquidation of The Post.
On February 15 when police and state agents under the command of Post Newspapers provisional liquidator Lewis Mosho invaded Dr M’membe’s house, they harassed and assaulted Mutinta and later arrested her for alleged obstruction and tearing a warrant.
