It’s shameful to talk about Lungu’s third term – PF founder member

A FOUNDER member of the PF says it is very embarrassing for some senior party officials to start pushing for President Edgar Lungu’s third term when the party has so many unfulfilled promises.
In an interview, Lusaka-based Desmond Banda said it was shameful that the PF leadership was engrossed in championing the third term bid when the ruling party had failed to address many social and economic problems facing Zambians.
“During the 2016 campaigns, the Patriotic Front made so many promises to the people of Zambia. A few months after it was voted back into power, some senior party officials have stood up to show solidarity and endorse the candidature of Edgar Lungu for the 2021 general elections when we have fulfilled none of the promises we made to the people of Zambia,” Banda said.
“It is very embarrassing to start talking about endorsement now when our country is facing so many challenges.”
He said the youths were surprised that senior party officials were busy dishing out money to champion the third term bid.
“Surprisingly, we have seen some senior party officials donating money which recently was used to hire some people who endorsed ECL for 2021 general election. My humble advice is that let us work and deliver to the people of Zambia so that come 2021 they will judge for themselves,” Banda said.
“Let’s stop buying people because the PF is the don’t kubeba specialist. It’s better to talk about the challenges we are facing now like high mealie-meal prices and people are complaining. Let’s not run away from our responsibilities; it’s very shameful.”
Last month, Copperbelt-based MMD members of parliament in PF and some independents with loose affiliation to the ruling party, resolved to support President’s Lungu’s pronouncement that he was eligible to stand in 2021.
During a media briefing held at Ndola’s Protea Hotel, the 12 MPs said President Lungu deserved another term in office because he had demonstrated quality leadership.
They thereafter declared Copperbelt Province as a no-go zone for opponents of the third term.
