Businessman Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as GBM has taken delivery of his new Mercedes Benz S 500 which his wife, Chama bought for him on his 56th birthday.
GBM is a smart guy that I agree with. I am not jealous of his money but I do strongly believe he could have done something meaningful with all that money. For those of you who have no idea, GBM is the Kasama Central Member of parliament.
What does GBM have to prove? We already know he is amongst the few rich Zambians. GBM doesn’t need to desperately show the entire nation that he can leave lavishly even without being under the wings of head of state. With the recent scandals that have been going on, GBM is out there busy trying to make a bold statement.
If GBM is that wealthy, why can’t he empower poor people like what the likes of Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey do? Why can’t he sponsor a football club for the poor youths of Kasama? Why can’t he donate even some exercise books to one of the poor school communities in Kasama?
I am not entitled to critique his financial choices but I would love to urge my fellow Zambians not to be selfish. As black people we need to uplift each other. If GBM can afford to buy a car worth $260 000 then he sure can as well buy school materials worth $2000 for a needy school in Kasama.
By the way, cars are in the category of wasting assets. By the end of next year the Mercedes Benz GBM acquired will have drastically lost value.
Need I mention that the owner of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg who is worth $ 20 billion drives a cheap Honda Fit car. What has GBM done for his community besides using the poor youth to do his dirty jobs whenever he needs to create violence?
Being rich is not about the machines you can park in your garage. Being rich is about how many lives you can improve in a positive way.
