FAZ To Protest Senegalese Ref ‘Poor’ Officiating.
THE Football Association of Zambia ( FAZ) will protest to the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) against Senegalese referee Diedhiou Malang’s poor officiating in Saturday’s 2018 Russia World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said in an interview that Malang’s officiating was questionable.
He was disappointed that Malanga made costly mistakes in a highly competitive match.
Kamanga described Malang’s handling of the match as unfair.
He attributed Zambia’s failure to collect maximum points to poor officiating.
Kamanga said Zambia deserved to win the match but poor officiating denied them victory.
“ Now we have to work hard. We still have 12 points to fight for and we have Algeria and Cameroon coming [ Ndola] then we have to travel to Algeria and Nigeria, so the group is still open,” he said.
He thanked President Lungu for his continued support towards football.
“ We are very grateful to His Excellency President Lungu for the support he has continued to render to the national team. He supported us through and through and we want to say thank you to him,” Kamanga said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere has urged the team to remain focused.
Mawere, who was speaking when he addressed the players at Limbe Omnisport Stadium, said Government was happy with the team’s performance.
“ We are proud of you. The way you played was inspiring. As minister in charge of sport I want to assure you that we will always support you,” he said.
He urged the players to continue working hard.
Mawere was grateful to President Lungu, for showing unprecedented support to the national team.
And Zambia Sports Fans Association patron Peter Makembo hailed President Lungu for supporting the national team and the fans.
