Ex-army officer sues AG for unlawful dismissal
By Kaungu Ndumba
A FORMER Zambia Army officer has sued the Attorney General in the Lusaka High Court for unlawful dismissal.
Fred Mulenga, who worked as a corporal in the Zambia Army at Arakan Barracks in Lusaka, stated that he was wrongfully dismissed from employment on April 30, 2011.
He claimed that he was dismissed without being told why and without being heard.
Mulenga stated that in 2012, he appealed against his discharge
to the Ministry of Defence where they only responded in May 2014 by letter stating that all provisions of the law were followed and that he was correctly discharged.
But Mulenga felt that the right procedure was not followed in
dismissing him because the ministry did not explain the reasons for doing so, thereby denying him the right to be heard.
He is therefore claiming reinstatement as corporal in the Zambia Army.
Mulenga is also seeking damages for wrongful dismissal, damages for distress and hardship he had endured, legal costs and any other reliefs that the court might fit.
