DEC Ceases 24.1 Kg Of Cocaine In Zambia

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in its history of operation has recorded its highest seizure of cocaine in Zambia.

The Commission in Lusaka has recorded its highest seizure of cocaine following the arrest of two (02) Zambians and a Tanzanian national for trafficking in 24.1kg of cocaine.

Sydney Mwansa, 32, an Assistant Manager of Taqua Bus Services of Tanzania; Likuta Shaibu Abilahi, 42, a Tanzanian of Mbagra in Dar-es-Salaam and Teddy Matanda, 35, a Taxi Driver of Lusaka’s Matero area have been arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in 24 packets of cocaine weighing 24.1kg.

The three suspects were arrested in three different locations, which include Intercity Bus Terminals, Matero in Lusaka and Chirundu with the help of the Zambia Police Service.

The Commission has also seized two motor vehicles, which include a Toyota Corolla and a Golf from the suspects. Other items seized include a Pistol with 15 rounds ammunition and cellular phones.

The suspects are currently in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
