Court finds Lesa with case to answer

KOMBONI Radio director Lesa Kasoma has been found with a case to answer in a matter where she is accused of assaulting a police officer.
Ruling on a case to answer, Lusaka magistrate Felix Kaoma said there was sufficient evidence requiring Kasoma to be placed on
“Considering the submissions by both parties, there is sufficient evidence requiring the accused to be placed on her defence,” magistrate Kaoma said.
Last week, Kasoma asked the court to acquit her in the case on the premise that the state had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
In her submissions on no case to answer, Kasoma, through her lawyer Paul Katupisha, noted that there was no overwhelming evidence to support the allegations.
She further stated that the State witnesses contradicted themselves when they testified in court.
Kasoma stated that police officers were overzealous and excessive in carrying out their duties and the State witnesses, together with the complainant, had a possible motive to give false evidence.
It is alleged in this matter that Kasoma on October 5, 2016 assaulted a police officer, Simon Chisanga, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
Defence comes on March 22.
