Copperbelt Geared For Any Cholera Outbreak
The Cholera outbreak in Lusaka and Chibombo has put the Copperbelt Province health administration on high alert.
The Copperbelt Province set up possible treatment centres in all districts and embarked on hygiene sensitization campaigns.
Copperbelt communicable disease control specialist Kennedy Chibwe said in an interview yesterday that the outbreak of cholera in the two districts, should be a wakeup call to put in place preventive measures
Mr Chibwe said in their preventive measures, they are collaborating with stakeholders such as water utility companies and councils to ensure high levels of hygiene in the communities.
He said members of the community are being sensitized to report any cases of leaking water pipes or blocked sewer lines, and the surveillance team is also on alert to monitor such cases.
Mr Chibwe said his office has also intensified inspections of food handler’s business premises to ensure that they are adhering to hygiene standards.
