A POLICE officer in Siavonga who pleaded guilty to a count of deserting the Zambia Police Service has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour.
Before Siavonga magistrate Edward Banda was Constable Kimba Mayankwa, 24 who readily pleaded guilty to the charge.
It was alleged that Mayankwa between October 26, 2016 and January 12, 2017 deserted the Zambia Police Service contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
In mitigation, the accused, who spoke through Siavonga police detective chief inspector Akuna Kanyanga, asked for the court’s leniency because he was a breadwinner and married.
Magistrate Banda said he took into account Mayankwa’s mitigation and sentenced him to six months with hard labour.
